It’s the homeschooled version of a homecoming. I had a lovely time with this beauty beforehand getting ready, drinking tea, and singing.
And you can always count on these guys for a crazy time.

The 5 Hayworths were together for the first time in forever and for the last time ever. We celebrated the occasion by running errands, going out to eat and buying these fabulous Startrek sweaters — one of my only impulse buys. Normally I would have been a stickler over $17.50, but I was buying more than a sweater. I was buying something hard to get: a sense of unity. Unity is what family should be all about. An unspoken knowledge that no matter what happens and no matter what someone does, everyone will be right there, loving, caring, and possibly laughing.
My sister just replaced her last name. A beautiful bride she was. Absolutely stunning. Thankfully, she married a Trekkie, so we don’t have to banish her. Ally was always mellow. It was hard to get her visibly excited about anything. But she was excited to marry her man, Daniel. The looks on both their faces when she walked down the aisle brought tears to my eyes. You could tell, just from their visage, that they were 1oo%, no doubt about it, in love. In fact, I’ve never seen her so happy as she was that day. So although the Hayworths are now only a collective of 4, we have a trek club of 6. And who knows when a little number 7 might pop into the equation.
One of my friends Victoria recently had a birthday. To celebrate, she invited the drama group from Hallstrom over for a “play party”. Each person was given a character to be and a set of clues and information. We all arrived dress in costume and played out our roles and gathered information to figure out who murdered Sharizad. I played Rapunzel. After we solved the murder and became ourselves again, we played Mafia, “I’ve Never” and Truth or Dare. And made random videos… And ate a lot… These people are the bomb.

One of the other things on my past summer list was “have a classy picnic.” So I did. I had found a picnic basket at a garage sale and with some help made plans. The menu consisted of sparkling grape and apple juice, BLT’s, chips and hummus, fruit salad, and pumpkin bars. The perfect atmosphere was completed with classic tunes, a ukulele, old trunks, blanket, vintage styled clothes, birds flying high, and a lovely pond. The outcome = perfection in a day.

A few weeks ago, I went back to Devil’s Lake. I love it there. It’s one of my favorite places in the Midwest. I guess I always find the two 550ft cliffs and beautiful lake a shock after the two hour drive of seeing nothing but corn. And flat land. And more corn. Devil’s Lake is a break from monotony.
There are several paths that go up and around or just around the lake, but that’s not the best way to go. I prefer to go straight up. Instead of hiking along the paths, I go climbing over the boulders. It’s always a bit challenging especially because I’m slightly lacking in height. But it’s always my favorite part. Something about going off the trail and using every appendage and all parts of your body to get somewhere and accomplish something is very satisfying.
