Classy Picnic

One of the other things on my past summer list was “have a classy picnic.” So I did. I had found a picnic basket at a garage sale and with some help made plans. The menu consisted of sparkling grape and apple juice, BLT’s, chips and hummus, fruit salad, and pumpkin bars. The perfect atmosphere was completed with classic tunes, a ukulele, old trunks, blanket, vintage styled clothes, birds flying high, and a lovely pond. The outcome = perfection in a day.

Signs of a Party

At the beginning of the summer, Nate and I decided that tea is a necessary side effect of a party. So if there’s a party at our house, whether it be for playing games or watching tv shows, tea is served. I find myself liking plain and simple earl gray quite a lot. Nate prefers his Samurai Chai from Teavana with a tablespoon of sugar and a generous splash of milk.

Now, scarcely a weekend (or even a weekday) goes by where our dishwasher or counter isn’t completely filled with tea cups and mugs. It brings me such happiness seeing so many dirty cups, so many good times, so many great parties.

Of course, a party wouldn’t be a party without my state’s official snack: popcorn. Yes, I just found out states had official snacks. But popcorn is pretty great as far as snacks go.

However, it’s mainly about the tea. There’s nothing like your friends just helping themselves to a mug as soon as they come in fully knowing the system. There’s nothing like holding a steaming cup in your hands, curling up in a blanket, and laughing or crying the night away with friends. Tea will always put me in a good mood and remind me of pleasant times.

St. Louis Again and Ukulele

My sister is officially settling in St. Louie. She’s currently juggling living on her own, a job, an internship, and most currently an engagement! She’s getting married! I’m kind of freaking out. Just a little bit.

My mom and I visited her to help her out and start thinking about wedding plans, but we also walked around the downtown and Mr. D (or Daniel as most people call him), Alison’s fiance — okay that sounds weird — had a ukulele he wasn’t using so he let me borrow it! Me and my uke are quite a pair. I finally got it in tune and smile every time I see it. The only sad part is that I can’t learn chords fast enough to play all the songs I want to on it. And most of the songs I do want to learn are so far removed from mainstream music that I can’t find the chords online. #hipsterproblems
