My Last Play

After eight plays with Hallstrom, I finally reached my last one. I ended with A Midsummer’s Night’s Dream, my favorite Shakespeare play. Yes, I’m only a Junior, but I’m going to community college full time next semester and most of my friends are graduating. Not to mention the directors that I have been with are also leaving. It’s time to be done. It was a pretty emotional last play for everyone because it was the last time we would all be onstage together, but it was good. And crazy. By the way, it was set in the eighties. With Eighties music.

Deadly Ever After

One of my friends Victoria recently had a birthday. To celebrate, she invited the drama group from Hallstrom over for a “play party”. Each person was given a character to be and a set of clues and information. We all arrived dress in costume and played out our roles and gathered information to figure out who murdered Sharizad. I played Rapunzel. After we solved the murder and became ourselves again, we played Mafia, “I’ve Never” and Truth or Dare. And made random videos… And ate a lot… These people are the bomb.

The Imaginary Invalid

This weekend I was in my seventh Hallstrom (homeschool co-up here in Rockford) play. We put on The Imaginary Invalid by Moliere. And I once again had an amazing time playing on stage.

But I guess I really want to say how thankful I am for all my drama buddies and just Hallstrom. I mean, Hallstrom has plenty of quirks, but I’m so glad that I became a part of its drama group. I’ve meet so many great people and learned so much. I can’t believe that I almost didn’t tryout for my first play there. I remember being so nervous that I told my mom I didn’t want to tryout. Everyone seemed to know each other and the whole atmosphere was so foreign and uncomfortable and different. But I did tryout; and my life is so very much the better for it. So here’s to Hallstrom and all the folks it brought together.

Justice or Mercy? Fall Play

It’s fall, and with fall (at least for me) comes a play. The play this fall was called Justice or Mercy and was a delightful comedy about a little town in Wisconsin, where two college graduates butt heads, and create many mix-ups. Along the way, there is a crazy group of old citizens, several clever high-school students, as well as some practical adults, creating excitement (and just a bit of madness) in their sleepy little town. I played the role of Fran – a trigger happy, dear-hunting, single, 90-year-old lady who owns a restaurant.

Soda Shop Angel Bio

For my writing today I had to write a bio for the play I am going to be in this semester. My mom said it was worth sharing.

Sammi’s changing visage and wild gesticulations are a part of her everyday life. She decided to put them both to good use in her fourth HHSW play. However, drama is not Sammi’s exclusive interest. She also revels in photography, swing dancing, and creative writing. After only six months on the most popular social networking site, Sammi has posted over five hundred pictures. For five successive years she has waltzed, tangoed, square danced, line danced, but most enjoyably swing danced her way through each Monday night under the gazebo in Beloit. Creating round and dynamic characters as well as bedazzling her writing with polysyllabic adjectives and adverbs bring Sammi great pleasure. In her spare time, she dabbles in guitar, singing, and flying on the trapeze. She hopes the show will leave you with a happy countenance.
