Dear Friends and Family,
I wanted to share about a short-term missions trip that I will be participating in this summer, July 17-30, 2012. A team of nine people (parents and teens, including the pastor) from my church will work for over a week at an urban ministry in the Ger district in Ulaan Baatar, Mongolia.
We will be working with a long term missionary from our church who runs a community center in this poor and needy area (slums) next to the capitol city. We will be leading a five-day English camp (one team member is an English as a Second Language teacher), visiting and praying with families, and working with teens and married couples. We also plan on doing a prayer walk and helping with small construction projects.
The cost of this short 14-day trip to such a far-away place is greater that we first anticipated (airfare increased recently), but our team believes it is an especially important opportunity nonetheless. For our small, young church it is a first major step in developing a collective heart for God’s people throughout the world. Going on a missions trip as teenagers was an important point of spiritual growth for both of my parents, and I know it will be for me also. God has done amazing things already to show me that he has much to teach me through this experience.
Knowing for several years that I wanted to go on a missions trip one day, I have saved more than $1000 for an opportunity like this. I will need about $3000 total for the trip (which includes 3 days in Beijing, China). I would appreciate your prayers for me and the entire team.
